Blackberries Can Be Layered
Layering is the rooting of stems while still attached to the parent plant.
The rooted pieces are cut off to form new plants. Many species propagate themselves naturally by various modifications of layering and many which cannot readily be propagated from cuttings (black raspberry) easily do so by means of layers. Layering is one of the easiest and most popular methods of plant propagation. The parent plant supplies food to the layer until this layer is capable of caring for itself. In outdoor practice, the operation is best performed in early spring.
